When we make the decision to perform a breast operation, there are a series of recommendations that we must follow to ensure the success of the operation.
Before we undergo a breat operation we should visit our surgeon. The doctor will review if we are taking any medication like anti-inflammatories, or any drugs like aspiring that will produce more bleeding than normal. Besides this, the clinic should chek that you are not taking a dietary, vitamin or herbal product that can generate a major bleeding, such as evening primrose oil, or any vitamin complexyes that may contain vitamin E, which is an antioxidant and that can influence the coagulation cascade.
Once the patient’s medication is reviewed, it is important that we prepare the surgery in the consultation, take pictures of the case, measure and draw the whole pattern of operation that is going to be performed in the breast before going to the hospital. This work will be done in the office in a more quiet and discreet way, which is less stressful for the patient. In this way, when the patient arrives at the hospital, we can pre-sedate her without having to stand up to draw the pattern of the reduction.
Another step to follow, is the realization of a complete photographic study of the patient’s breasts to warn if there are asymetries or differences of vertical or horizontal implantation between the two breasts, if there is any asummetry of sulcus, of areolas, what is the distance between the areola-nipple complex and the external hairpin and note all those differences that may exist in the patient. We will also perform a mammogram beforehand, to study if there are lesions in the patient that would oblige us to perform a biopsy of a specific tissue segment or treat it.
