Many couples for various reasons would like to be able to choose the sex of their baby. As you know, the choice of sex in Spain is forbidden except for medical reasons. For this reason we have sought and offer our customers quality alternatives in other countries.
The clinic with which we collaborate does a genetic test before implantation (PGS) which is a test that examines the chromosomal material of an embryo. It can indicate if the appropriate number of chromosomes is present (46), or if there is an abnormal number of chromosomes.
Chromosomes 13, 18 and 21 are analyzed, as well as XX and XY for the genus. Only embryos with a normal number of chromosomes will be transferred. There is no risk of trisomy or monosomy disorders, such as Turner syndrome, Down syndrome or Edward syndrome, for example.
PGS has an accuracy of 99.9% to determine the gender of the embryos before being transferred to the uterus.
The first important step is the required tests:
For the woman:
- Hormonal blood tests: AMH, FSH, TSH, E2 and prolactin.
- Blood test to check: HIV, HBsAg, anti-HCV
- Transvaginal ultrasound: follicle count and revision of the lining of the matrix.
- These tests must be done on day 2, 3 or 4 of your menstruation to be accurate and must be made at most six months before in vitro fertilization, can be done by your gynecologist or your fertility clinic that have more experience.
Based on the results, the Cyprus doctor will be able to establish the best treatment plan and also tell us an accurate probability of success … they are all different and, therefore, the tests are the best indicator.
For the man:
A blood test to check; HIV, HBsAg, anti-HCV.
Spermiogram
All these tests are sent to the doctor to establish the treatment to follow, and so we can see medication and cost, as well as possible travel dates.
This is a brief summary of the process, for a choice of sex with IVF in this case to our clinic in Cyprus.
The treatment process will follow the following schedule (although it may be subject to change):
Day 1 – First day of menstruation.
Day 2 – Stimulation injections begin.
Day 6 – Ultrasound
Day 9 – Fly to Cyprus
Day 10/11 – Scan injection and hCG (if the ovules are ready)
Day 13 – Collection of ovules and sperm.
Day 16 – Embryo biopsy.
Day 18 – Embryo transfer.
At all times these are attended by the doctor, in many cases they try to reduce the time to be away from home to the necessary and only be in Cyprus for the extraction of the ovules and implantation.
The cost of ICSI treatment with PGS will be 5,500 euros. From there they offer packages with hotel near the clinic and all the necessary logistical support.
