The package also includes legal assistance for birth certificate issuance and contract formalization.
Step-by-Step Guide to Gestational Surrogacy in the US
- Initial Consultation
Once you contact us, we schedule a video call with our US-based partner agency. During this call, we outline the surrogacy process, answer questions, and provide recommendations for legal or medical services as needed. Consultations can be held via Skype, phone, or in person, depending on your preference.
- Selecting the Surrogate
After deciding to proceed, you’ll receive profiles of surrogate candidates who match your preferences. You can review and provide feedback within 24 hours. If both you and the surrogate agree, we arrange an introductory meeting via Skype or in person.
- Interviewing the Surrogate
In this meeting, both parties can ask questions to establish comfort and trust. Once matched, you’ll confirm your choice via email, and we’ll guide both sides through the next steps.
- Setting Up an Escrow Account
An escrow account in the US is established to streamline payments, covering the initial $2,600 fee, surrogate compensation, and other expenses. This ensures transparency and efficiency throughout the process.
- Medtravelco’s Role
Medtravelco coordinates with all professionals involved, including background checks, psychological evaluations, legal representatives, and the IVF clinic. We prioritize a seamless and stress-free journey for intended parents and surrogates alike.
- Background and Psychological Assessments
We conduct background checks and psychological evaluations for the surrogate and her partner, if applicable, ensuring suitability for the process. Intended parents are also required to complete a background check, which can be arranged in Spain.
- Medical Examination of the Surrogate
Once cleared psychologically, the surrogate undergoes a medical exam at the IVF clinic. This includes blood and urine tests, ultrasounds, and health screenings.
- Health Insurance for the Baby
The surrogate’s insurance covers her medical care but not the baby’s post-birth expenses. Parents can either pay the hospital directly or purchase separate health insurance for the newborn.
- Signing the Contract
Once the surrogate is medically approved, legal contracts are prepared and reviewed by both parties’ lawyers. After mutual agreement, contracts are signed and notarized.
- Fertility Treatments
The surrogate begins fertility treatments as prescribed by the IVF doctor, with medication costs covered by the intended parents.
- Pregnancy Confirmation
Two weeks after embryo transfer, the surrogate undergoes a blood test to confirm pregnancy. Subsequent tests and ultrasounds ensure the pregnancy is progressing as expected.
- Prenatal Care
The surrogate transitions to her personal obstetrician for prenatal care. Our US partners ensure smooth coordination between the IVF clinic and the obstetrician.
- 4D Ultrasounds
Intended parents can request a 4D ultrasound during weeks 26–34 to see their baby in vivid detail. Costs range from $80 to $200, covered by the parents.
- Parental Rights Judgment
Around week 24 of pregnancy, we initiate the legal process to establish intended parents’ rights, ensuring they are listed on the baby’s birth certificate.
- Final Funding Estimate
Between weeks 25 and 30, we provide a final estimate of funds, ensuring financial readiness for the remainder of the journey.
- Birth and Travel Arrangements
We recommend intended parents arrive in the US around weeks 36–37 for single pregnancies or weeks 33–34 for twins. Parents may be present during delivery, subject to prior agreement with the surrogate.
- Birth Certificate and Passport
After the birth, our US partners assist with obtaining the baby’s birth certificate, passport, and Social Security card.
