OVULE DONATION

In cases where a female´s oocytes do not offer sufficient quality to generate a pregnancy the occytes of a compatible donor may be used. The reciver will undergo a hormone treatment to prepare her endometrium to host the fertilized occytes following a process of In Vitro Fertilization and Introcytoplasmatic Sperm Injection of partner or donor sperm.

Oocyte donors are healthy young women who must complete eshaustive medical and psychological testing before being accepted as donors. Egg donation is both a voluntary and anonymous act and the choice of the most compatible donor is the responsability of the medical team to ensure maximum phenptypic and immunoplogical similarity with the recipient.

(IVF AND ICSI)

IVF requires using specific hormones to stimulate multiple controlled ovulation and adequate maturation of the oocytes. When mature one or various oocytes are retrieved and fertilized in the lab with semen from the partner or a donor.

In Introcytoplasmatic sperm Injection (ICSI) a qualified embryologist introduces a spermatozoon directly in the oocyte using micromanipularion techniques. The fertilized oocytes are then placed into special incubators and following 2 to 5 days are transferred to the uterus to produce a pregnancy.

This treatment allows homosexual couples composed of two women to “share the maternity”. One of the womwn donates her own oocytes to her partner, who will carry the pregnancy.

The donor undergoes an ovarian stimulation drug treatment in order to be prepared to donate oocytes. These oocytes are then retrived and fertilized in the laboratory by in vitro fertilization, using a donor sperm sample from IMER. The embryos obtained are transferred to the uterus os the recipient for gestation.
